The iPhone was about to land, locked down tight. Nokia had the better hardware and the opposite philosophy: a phone open to anything you wanted to do with it.
So we made “open” the whole story, and New York the stage. Billboards, wild postings, newspaper ads and full takeovers of amNewYork put the idea of an unlocked phone on every corner of the city.
